When God Didn’t Say It: Letting Go of False Words, False Promises and Delusions
Not every “prophetic word” is from God.
Some are birthed out of pain.
Some are shaped by unresolved trauma.
Some are fueled by desires we never truly surrendered.
Yet these words can still feel spiritual. They might sound biblical. They may even come wrapped in dreams, “confirmations,” and scriptures we found in our own searching. But they do not produce the fruit of the Spirit, and they never really lead to true peace.
There are so many who have confused emotional obsession with divine direction. They’ve held tightly to a prophetic word or what they believed was a promise from God , only to find themselves years later, frustrated, striving, confused and still waiting for something that’s never going to happen. My heart truly hurts for those in this position. This cannot be the will of God for anyone. This is not God’s nature to string you along for years with clear rejection and loud closed doors.
The hard truth? Some of us have been chasing promises God never made.
The dangerous thing about delusion is that it disguises itself as destiny. It doesn’t always look like rebellion. Sometimes it’s covered with language that sounds surrendered, spiritual, and even “deep.” But when something originates from a place of idolized desire rather than divine instruction from God, it will always lead us off course—even if we’re using Scripture to support it.
This is how many well-meaning people end up teaching, preaching, and prophesying out of their own soul. They’re convinced that their interpretation is true and accurate because it makes sense emotionally or circumstantially. They end up using the Word of God as a mirror to reflect their personal fantasy, not as a lamp to guide their path.
How do you know if you're in a delusion?
Here are some signs:
You feel constant torment/anxiety about the “word” you’re holding on to, not peace.
You spend more time defending it than discerning it.
You ignore wise counsel and red flags because “you know what you heard”.
You use fasting, decrees, and striving to try to force it to happen.
You’ve built your whole walk with God around this one outcome.
You isolate yourself from those who disagree with your version of the “promise”.
You feel bitterness, confusion, or rejection when it doesn’t happen, but keep calling it “faith”.
Listen my fellow sisters in Christ, God still speaks—but He doesn’t stutter, and He’s not double-minded.
When He gives a word, it comes with peace, order, and fruit in season. If you have to keep striving to make it happen or manipulate people into agreeing with you, chances are... it didn’t come from Him.
What if you’ve been wrong?
This blog post isn’t to condemn you. This is to call you out of confusion and into clarity.
You are not the first person to hold onto a word that God never gave. You are not weak for wanting something deeply. But you are being invited into a deeper level of maturity now.
It’s ok to say, “God, I thought this was you, but I’m willing to release it if it’s not.”
That posture of surrender is what brings alignment back into your life. Place it at the feet of Jesus, just like when Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac.
Ask the Lord to remove anything that is not His will for you life and have peace with that. If it’s God’s will, it will happen—if it’s not, then you should have peace knowing it wasn’t God’s perfect will for your life. IF you cannot surrender, then you might need to get some spiritual help. I would advise you to seek out wise counsel for prayers and deliverance.
Sometimes God will test us—not by whether we can hold onto a word, but whether we can let it go when it’s time.
If you’re realizing that you’ve built on a faulty word, here’s a simple prayer you can pray:
"Father, in the name of Jesus, I repent for holding onto anything that did not come from You. Whether it was a word, a person, a vision, or a dream—if it didn’t originate from Your Spirit, I surrender it now. I break agreement with every false prophecy, soul desire, and fantasy. Wash me with Your truth. Restore clarity in my heart and mind. Help me to desire Your will above my own. I trust that whatever comes from You will be peaceful, pure, and undeniable in its fruit. Thank You for Your mercy and for realigning me. In Jesus' name, amen."
You don’t have to be stuck in confusion. You don’t have to build your life on a hope that God never authored. You don’t have to manipulate Scripture or chase after signs trying to convince yourself of something He’s not saying.
Let God reset your heart. Let Him heal you from the emotional wounds that made you hold on so tightly. Let Him show you that His real promises are never birthed in striving but in REST—Intimacy with Him! Being in God’s presence is the BEST place to be!
You don’t need to manufacture anything.
You don’t need to convince others.
You don’t need to carry the weight of making it happen.
If God really said it, He’ll bring it to pass in His time.
If He didn’t, then trust that what He has for you is better than anything you thought you missed.
Let Him be God again.
Let go of the fantasy, and receive His truth.
What He has for you will always be greater than what you even thought you wanted or needed.
I pray that is blesses you. Receive God’s peace and trust that His plans for you are good not evil, to give you an expected end.
