How to Prepare for the Promise!

Some of you are on the brink of breakthrough and I know, it can sometimes feel so daunting. One day you’re high in faith and the next, it’s like you’ve run out of patience because it feels like you’ve been waiting for so long. For some, you’ve been waiting years for a particular promise to come to pass… you’ve been through testing after testing and you’re like how long Lord, how much more time do I have to wait? Hang in there! Don’t give up! I want to remind you that God is FAITHFUL! He will do just what He said in His timing. He knows best – that’s why His timing is perfect.

When you’re waiting on God’s timing, preparation is key. Many times, God isn’t withholding the blessing—He’s making sure you’re ready to handle it well. Here’s how you can prepare spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, and practically:

1.SPIRITUALLY: Strengthening Your Foundation in The Word of God

Matthew 6:33 says - “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When you seek to do the will of God for your life, to advance His kingdom on earth, He promises that ALL these things (everything you’ve been desiring that is within His will for you) will come to pass!

The blessings that God is getting ready to release upon His children is unfathomable. It’s MASSIVE – Eyes have not seen neither have ears heard the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. That means, God must be able to trust you with the blessings He wants to release over you before He releases it. You must be spiritually mature enough to sustain it. I’ve listed a few tips below on how to mature in your relationship with God:

Deepen Your Prayer Life

  • Set aside dedicated time daily to read and study the Word, to pray, worship, and to be still before the Lord. You want to be still to hear what He has to say as you sit in His presence. Make sure to have a journal with you during these times to write down what God is saying or what He drops in your spirit.

  • Learn to pray the Word—find scriptures related to your promise. Pray the scriptures and then declare them over your life. We are in a season where the promises of God are voice activated. You must see it first in the spirit, then you must speak what God has said concerning it, to have it. You shall decree a thing and it shall be established!

Fast with Purpose

  • Fasting helps align your spirit with God’s will and removes distractions. It’s also an act of humility, where you die to your fleshly needs to attend to the will and needs of the Father.

  • While you are waiting on the promise, ask God, “What do You need me to release or work on before my next season?”. Write down what He says, and make sure to obey quickly everything He has asked you to do. He will provide everything you need; He only wants you to take the next step by faith. As you move in faith, He will make your path much clearer and He’ll have everything fall right into place.

Strengthen Your Character

  • The blessing should not become an idol—make sure your heart motives are right. It’s unfortunate that some people make the promise an idol and then but their own desires above God. God cannot and will not release anything to you that will destroy you. When you make something an idol, it’s a guarantee that you will strive and move in your flesh to make things happen as opposed to moving by the Spirit and trusting God to do it. Anything you do in your own strength will never last and will only lead to more problems. Repent if you’ve veered off course and ask God to bring you back into alignment.

  • Work on developing the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

  • Ask God to refine any areas where pride, insecurity, or immaturity may hinder you. You do not want to self-sabotage what God is getting ready to do in your life.

2. EMOTIONALLY & MENTALLY: Becoming Whole & Healed

Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”  The Word ‘transformed’ in Greek means to change into another form, to transfigure. We do this by renewing (renovating; complete change for the better) our minds. The mind--the faculties of perceiving and understanding and those of feeling, judging and determining. It’s also defined as the intellectual faculty, our understanding. We need to change thoughts, feelings and will for the better to align with that of the Father through His Word.

God doesn’t just want to bless you—He wants you to be healed and whole so you don’t sabotage your blessing when it comes.

 Heal from the Past

  • If you still have unforgiveness, trust issues, or brokenness, take time to heal and release it to God. Repent, ask God to highlight these unresolved areas in your heart, forgive the offender, and allow God’s love and acceptance to heal you and set you free.

  • Seek inner healing and deliverance from emotional wounds that may affect your next season. Find a life coach (like me), to help coach you through this. You can also consider finding a Christian therapist who can help you work through some of the more deeper-rooted issues that I as a life coach cannot help you with.

Cultivate Joy & Thanksgiving

  • Learn to be content in your current season (Philippians 4:11-13). The fact that you have life and have been granted another day to pursue purpose is so much to give God thanks for.

  • Keep a journal—write down at least 3 things daily that you’re thankful for.

Strengthen Your Mindset

  • God’s next level for you requires a renewed mindset!

  • Stop thinking small—prepare to carry a kingdom mindset in your relationships, business, or ministry.

  • Decree the following daily: “I am prepared, positioned, and ready for my next season!”

3. PHYSICALLY & PRACTICALLY: Taking Action While You Wait

James 2:17  says, “Faith without works is dead.” You’ve got to put your hand to the plow. You can’t be holding on to faith and not getting anything done. You’ve got to take faith and take action and trust God.

Waiting on God is not passive—it’s a season of intentional preparation.

If you’re waiting for a new career or business:

  • Gain new skills—take online courses, read books, or get mentorship.

  • Organize your finances—clear debt, budget wisely, and practice good stewardship.

  • Prepare your resume, business plan, or marketing strategy—be ready when the door opens!

If you’re waiting for ministry doors to open:

  • Study the Word deeply so you are prepared to teach and lead.

  • Start where you are—serve faithfully in small assignments before expecting bigger platforms.

  • Practice discipline, humility, and patience—God promotes those who serve well (Luke 16:10).

If you’re trusting God to relocate:

  • Begin to start looking for property

  • Do a spiritual mapping exercise and begin to pray over that region/nation.

  • Ask the Lord what your assignment is and begin to prepare for that.

  • Start packing your stuff so when the door opens, you’re ready to go!

The level of your preparation is proof of faith! If you truly believe God is going to bless you, you will act accordingly. Stay in position, do your part, and trust that He will move in His perfect timing! Be blessed!
